But, I've never seen an upper... elbow... /... lower upper arm tattoo? I wish she'd jump onto that arm sleeve trend that Raonic and Sharapova have been on.

The most annoying thing about her tattoos (she's got another matching one on her upper thigh) is, why in the world would a Czech woman get all appropriation-y with Maori culture? Her entire family is tattooed like that. Ugh.

I don't think it's particularly unique to New York, but let's think about both broad and NYC-specific factors that could be driving it.

His game is more beautiful to watch than Nadal's. But Nadal works the crowd more.

His English is naturally better than Nadal's.

He's played and won more matches at the Open, particularly night matches. So there may just be some familiarity breeds likability effects.

These days he has the veteran status thing working for him. The last few years people were pulling for him to get one more major; he had almost become an underdog. Not really in play this year. Nadal had the young insurgent thing going for him at one point, but that never seemed to endear him in New York. Maybe people still saw him as a clay court specialist at that time and not as legitimate as they see, say, Shapovalov now.

That's all I got.

No, I totally see all of that and agree with you. I guess being there just really highlighted how strong the connection is between Roger and tennis fans. Especially because I, personally, have always found him pretty... I don't know? I guess robotic and self-involved. But, he has more slams than any other man in history. And people do love a living legend...

Talking about fan adoration...the crowd basically refused to let Delpo lose. That was incredible.

It was. But, man. That has to be a hard loss for Thiem.

I love Thiem but he's got more time left that Delpo.

True.

I want to know what was in those tablets del Potro took when the trainer visited before I get my next cold.

I missed a lot of the match. I saw the 1st set and saw del Potro was having some type of issue. I then went to a fantasy draft party, and friend told me the 2nd set score so I thought it was over. After our draft, my friend tells me they're 4-4 in the 5th set. I then saw the last few games. What happened?!?! Awesome for del Potro, and he hit more 2-handed backhands than I've seen. My only issue with delpo winning is I wonder what he has left for Federer (i.e. nothing).

Yeah, Thiem really shat his pants serving for the match in the fourth, but I'm thrilled for DelPo!

It looks like Svitolina is in the driver's seat here, BUT couldn't she lose in the semis and still be #1 if Pliskova doesn't make the final? So, not only would Svitolina be #1 without having won a major, but she wouldn't have even made the finals of a major. Crazy. Has that happened before? I can't remember the timing of when Jankovic got to #1.
