In keeping with the huge number of lucky losers at the French, there were 7 in the men's draw here. That's really crazy, and makes you wonder how many guys missed their shot at a slam main draw because some guy went ahead played just to get a paycheck. (Not that I blame players who aren't raking in millions in prize money wanting to cash in on a "free" $45,000. But, still.) Looks like the new rule was a good idea.

Also, 7 of the 16 guys who lost in the final round of qualifying got into the main draw. That means, if you're one of the five highest ranked guys going into the final round, you pretty much know you're getting in even if you lose.

Also, having watched Brengle play at both the US Open and Wimbledon, she's basically "can I speak to your manager" in human form. Constantly tries to screw with the server by holding things up, always looks totally put upon by any small inconvenience, seldom actually outright complains to the umpire but eyeballs every moderately close call... a rubbish person. Also, her ball toss is jokes.

Serena easily lives up to her seeding. I can’t believe there was ever a question about seeding her.

Makaraova is another play I don’t get. Well, I guess she can’t handle being the favorite, but she has so many good matches against top players in majors.

Kvitova said in her post-match interview that dealing with nerves and wanting to win is what got to her. She said when she was younger it didn’t mean as much. She also cracked a joke about skipping majors, so yeah.

Given her complaining about flying insects costing her the match and saying Makarova, "won't get far" after beating her, how is Wozniacki still nicknamed "Sunshine?"

And yeah. Serena played 100% better than she did against Rus. Assuming she doesn't have to play on back to back days (notice she very rarely enters one-week tournaments anymore to give her a day off), I think she's the clear favorite.
