Two maybe three will run the board but there's almost always variations here and there in terms of winners. Not only that, apparently, it's also the first time all four of the apparent front-runners didn't win any of the major critics awards (NBoR, NYFCC, LAFC and NSFC). And should any of them lose the Oscar, I do believe it will be the first time someone who swept all four major precursor prizes in the modern awards season lost the Oscar. Thanks, that's all pretty interesting and makes you wonder why this year (just coincidence/random?). |

RE: Precursor Awards 2017-2018
It feels like there was less fight this year in general because Hollywood has the recent scandals on their minds more than the current top films. I think between that and constant Trump problems, no one's excited about campaigning. I can't remember a quieter season post-nominations.

RE: Precursor Awards 2017-2018
I was thinking about that today. It feels like the Oscars have...already happened? It is very odd.
I still think Shape of Water is going to win BP, but GG, SAG, and BAFTA all going to Three Billboards? That is very promising. PGA, DGA, and BFCA going for SoW, though. But the last of those three barely matters in precursor-to-Oscar translation. Acting is done. Original Screenplay is the one to watch. Damn. I think Get Out and Lady Bird could seem like safest bets, but I could also see something sneaking past them, specifically Three Billboards. Crash and 2005 all over again. |
