RE: Rank the Nominees
Breaking from past years and going with how I'd fill out a ballot instead of my personal preference.
Best Picture 1. Roma 2. The Favourite 3. Black Panther 4. A Star is Born 5. BlacKkKlansmen 6. Green Book - I liked it a lot but have zero desire to see it win BP 7. Bohemian Rhapsody - same, and I'll add it's a guilty pleasure more than a good movie 8. Vice Director 1. Cuaron 2. Lanthimos 3. Lee 4. Pawlikowski 5. McKay Actor 1. Cooper, who is honestly getting hosed this season 2. Malek 3. Mortensen 4. Bale 5. Dafoe Actress 1. Close by a hair 2. Colman 3. Aparicio 4. Gaga 5. McCarthy Supporting Actor 1. Ali 2. Driver 3. Elliott 4. Grant 5. Rockwell - it was a fun cameo, but this nod is silly Supporting Actress 1. King - I really want her to win over the competition though she's not in my personal top 5 2. De Tavira 3. Weisz 4. Stone - Doesn't need the win but she's actually my favorite 5. Adams Original Screenplay 1. The Favourite 2. Green Book - the dialogue was its strong suit, but I hope The Favourite wins 3. Roma 4. Vice 5. First Reformed Adapted Screenplay 1. If Beale Street Could Talk 2. BlacKkKlansmen 3. Can You Ever Forgive Me? 4. A Star is Born - acting and direction were stronger than script for me Haven't seen Buster Scruggs and may not bother |

RE: Rank the Nominees
Best Picture
1. Roma 2. The Favourite 3. BlacKkKlansman ..... 4. Black Panther ..... 5. Vice ..... 6. Green Book 7. A Star Is Born ..... 8. Bohemian Rhapsody I loooooove the first three, loved 4, liked 5 well enough, and didn't like/hated the last three. So help me god, if #6 or #8 wins...... Best Director 1. Alfonso Cuarón ..... 2. Yorgos Lanthimos 3. Spike Lee 4. Paweł Pawlikowski ..... 5. Adam McKay The first four are fantastic, and even McKay is really good. When Cuarón wins #2 for this, he'll be in my top ten all-time. Best Actor 1. (Intentionally left blank) 2. Willem Dafoe 3. Christian Bale 4. Viggo Mortensen 5. Bradley Cooper 91. Rami Malek I hate this fucking category. Honestly, I don't think any of these men deserves to win; I sort of liked Dafoe and Bale, but that's it. When Malek wins (I've accepted it), he will plummet straight to the bottom of my list of Best Actor winners, so well done! Best Actress 1. Melissa McCarthy 2. Olivia Colman ..... 3. Glenn Close 4. Yalitzia Aparicio ..... 5. Lady Gaga Aside from Gaga, I think this category is fantastic. I'd rather give the Best Actor Oscar to one of the women on this list and have two winners here instead. Best Supporting Actor 1. Adam Driver 2. Richard E. Grant 3. Sam Rockwell ..... 4. Mahershala Ali 5. Sam Elliott I'm not that wild about any of these performances, but I do like the first three quite a bit. I wish Mahershala were in Lead Actor; I could've lived with his winning there, but I guess I'll have to live with it here. Best Supporting Actress 1. Rachel Weisz 2. Emma Stone 3. Marina de Tavira 4. Regina King ..... 5. Amy Adams I liked Adams quite a bit, but I absolutely loved the other four. I have King ranked fourth, but I'm rooting for her. Also! I never ranked last year, probably because I was so pissed off by the acting winners and also refused to see Phantom Thread, and while it really doesn't matter at this point, I still want to rank them because I...'m crazy. Best Picture 1. The Shape of Water 2. Lady Bird 3. Get Out ..... 4. Call Me by Your Name ..... 5. Dunkirk 6. The Post 7. Darkest Hour ..... Ninth Circle of Hell ..... 666666666. Three Shitboards Fucking Missouri's Asshole As I said, I won't see Phantom Thread, but I can't imagine ranking it last given my feelings on that last piece of shit. I loved the first three, have VERY mixed feelings about 4, and didn't like 5-7 at all. I skipped watching the Oscars last year because I could not have handled watching that last film win. Thank all the gods it didn't. Kill it with fucking fire. Best Director 1. Guillermo del Toro 2. Jordan Peele 3. Greta Gerwig ..... 4. Christopher Nolan 5. Paul Thomas Anderson, probably I loved the first three and didn't think much of Nolan's work at all. Best Actor 1. Timothée Chalamet ..... 2. Daniel Kaluuya ..... 3. Gary Oldman 4. Denzel Washington (partially because his movie was so fucking awful) 5. Daniel Day-Lewis (I assume, but maybe he'd be third given how unimpressive I found Oldman and Washington.) Chalamet was robbed blind by a bunch of fucking morons who don't understand that putting on a bunch of makeup and saying words are things each and every one of them could do and are therefore unworthy of being rewarded with an Oscar for acting. The end. Best Actress 1. Sally Hawkins 2. Saoirse Ronan ..... 3. Margot Robbie ..... 4. Meryl Streep 5. Frances McDormand (I blame the writing for a lot my issues with this performance, but nope, no thank you.) I adored the first two and could switch their order tomorrow, really liked #3, and had nothing but antipathy for the last two. Best Supporting Actor 1. Richard Jenkins 2. Woody Harrelson (the only good thing in his dumpster fire of a movie) ..... 3. Willem Dafoe ..... 4. Sam Rockwell (Fuck. this. Mostly because of the writing again, but still.) I had/have no interest in Plummer's film, but I can't imagine he'd be higher than third. I thought the first two were great, was really perplexed by the praise for 3, and the last one makes me want to throw up for five hundred years. Best Supporting Actress 1. Laurie Metcalf ..... 2. Octavia Spencer ..... 3. Allison Janney 4. Mary J. Blige I actually don't know where Lesley Manville would finish, maybe third or fourth? Really, though, Metcalf was as robbed as Chalamet because the Academy voters don't understand that having a bird on your shoulder and being a one-dimensional abusive monster are actually much, much, MUCH easier than creating a seemingly awful mother who actually has an unbelievable amount of internal complexity is. The acting winners this year fucking sucked, although I can be happy in a general sense that Janney is an Oscar winner. |
