2016 Grammys thread (held in 2017)
It'll be the 60th Grammy Awards!
Eligibility started October 1st 2015 and ends September 30th 2016. Early thoughts: 1. Is it Adele vs. Beyonce in the General Field with nobody else getting a look in? 2. Who's doing the Prince tribute? |

Adele vs Beyonce'. Adele is going to be so mortified if she wins.
I hope Beyonce' is apart of the tribute. Her duo with Prince in 03 still gives me utter life. |

Looks like Adele vs. Beyonce, although David Bowie should be considered as well, right?

I feel like veteran nods aren't that common these days. Even with the passing I can't see it happening unless it makes huge waves.
It hurts me to think about Bey losing both times, but I want to see Adele win for '25' if only for what she achieved through it (on top of the quality) for not only herself but for the industry. It's why I don't begrudge Taylor winning her second for 'Born To Die: The Paradise Edition"........... |

Adele's 25 is such a snooze. I hope she doesn't win.

Adele's music is certainly more in line with what voters seem to love, but the lack of promotion through singles could hurt it. Beyonce's album will be fresher on minds, but considering her loss to Beck and Lamar's to Swift this year, I don't think this type of music appeals to the larger mass of voters.
Beyonce will only be a player in Record and Song if a track breaks out. I don't see "Formation" getting in, but maybe something else will catch on. |

Maybe "Formation" could get in if they want to acknowledge the activism and cultural appeal but that's doubtful. These days it seems like SOTY is more ROTY with one songwriters' song in there. I wouldn't predict it.
I doubt Adele's singles thing hurts her since she's going on a very big tour. I think not drowning us in more of what we've heard is only a good thing. The more time that passes, the more her album loss two years ago makes sense. And I can't see her doing it with this album. |

Some of these songs literally have a dozen or more writers. Voters aren't going to reward that in SOTY. |

"Here's Why Criticizing Beyoncé for Working with Songwriters is Ignorant" |

My issue with her in regards to writing/collaborators isn't as much the amount of them as much as it's well-documented that she's barely involved (and sometimes not involved at all) yet takes a credit. I take issue with that, and I would say the same for any artist who does it. Regardless, I can see why someone would respect it more if an artist writes/produces alone or with like 1 collaborator versus working with like 20 people. I am not saying that is right or wrong, just saying I understand it. |
