Losing interest in the men's tournament fast, but really pleased with the strong results from Lisicki, Sloane, Venus, and Petkovic. Would love it if one of them won this.

Great article about why tennis lags so far behind other sports in analytics, or at least the publicly available kind:

RE: ATP/WTA Thread: Murray Got Back
I found this surprising: Carla Suarez Navarro is only the third Spanish woman to be ranked in the Top 10. The other two are Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and Conchita Martinez.

RE: ATP/WTA Thread: Murray Got Back
This final is emblematic of everything's that wrong with women's tennis.

RE: ATP/WTA Thread: Murray Got Back
Pretty interesting: only 5 players in the Top 35 have a winning lifetime H2H against Top 10 players: S.Williams, Sharapova, V.Williams, Azarenka and...Giorgi.

I think we can all agree Djokovic is the favorite tomorrow...but how much of a favorite?

RE: ATP/WTA Thread: Murray Got Back
I'd expect at least 1 set to be close. Nadal has had some tough matches leading into this, so between physical and mental weariness and Djokovic's form, I see a 6-2, 7-5 score or something. Hopefully Nadal is ready to go by Roland Garros. The game needs him back in great form.

RE: ATP/WTA Thread: Murray Got Back
It's amazing how the length (or lack thereof) of Nadal's shots perfectly works as an indicator of his overall condition/competitiveness. Whereas his forehand is unplayable in the whereabouts of the baseline, it becomes an invitation to crush the ball when it lands in the service boxes.
Hopefully he can find himself in time for the French. Djokovic is looking really good for a career Slam (but he did last year, too). |
