RE: Current Events
Bernie Sanders would be my choice over Hillary but I think he might be too left for undecided/centrist voters. He makes Hillary look conservative.

RE: Current Events
It's getting busy on the GOP side - Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee and Ben Carson have all announced over the past 24 hours.

As annoyed as I am have marriage equality put to a referendum (which is required in Ireland as it was a constitutional amendment) it's a really thrilling moment right now. The country that decriminalized homosexuality in 1993 has now voted for marriage equality. Extraodinary. |

Moreover, the fact that basically everyone in the Irish government, the star athletes, and every prominent person in Ireland were unequivocally telling the citizenry to vote for marriage equality and the fact that the result hasn't been in doubt for weeks...it's all so heartening in so many ways. |

RE: Current Events
It's definitely really cool news, since it was voted in by popular vote. It's so silly that it's such an issue. And I had no idea that they had just decriminalized homosexuality in 1993, so they evolved on the issue pretty quickly.

RE: Current Events
Ireland was still ahead of the United States in decriminalizing homosexuality. There were active anti-sodomy laws in several states until the Supreme Court ruled them unconstitutional in the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision. So, one could argue that LGBT rights have been moving even faster in the United States than in Ireland.

RE: Current Events
That's very true. I always forget that the U.S. has (had) those kind of laws on the books until very recently.
