DO WE WANT THESE BOARDS TO CONTINUE?

Hello ladies and gays! So we've been down for the last couple of days because the domain expired. TPTB didn't realize anyone was still using the boards and while ciski was able to renew for five years, we are in the process of transferring ownership to somebody who is still active here to avoid this happening again. At this juncture, he's renewed the domain, but not the hosting site...which is to say there's a possibility we go down again. He laid out his own money to make sure we got up and running ASAP so once ownership is sorted out, we will post info on how you can reimburse him, if you so choose. Entirely optional.

We have been populating a secret Facebook group in the interim and will go back there if anything happens that makes the boards go down temporarily again. If you are on Facebook but are not a part of the group, it's because I don't have your Facebook info. If you want to, you can friend me at facebook.com/redcarpetrachel and I will invite you to the group. We should be congregating here again shortly after everybody realizes we're back, with FB acting as the emergency back up. Since we are so insular at this point anyway, we had a little informal poll about whether we should revive the boards or stay with Facebook and the organization and relative anonymity of the boards made it the majority decision.

We'd love to have some kind of semblance of a homepage again. Even though we are very insular and there's a glut in the market of sites covering the same topics, we'd love to try to engage new participants. Also, if you found us via the Facebook and haven't been active in awhile, we'd love to have you back full-time.

The host is paid for until June and will need to be renewed in May. We will cross that bridge when we get there.

Update!!!

What we predicted would happen did indeed happen. Our hosting contract expired. It was $299 to renew. Thanks to all who were active in the FB group or via email who contributed to get us back up.

This renewed for a year. Long term planning...we need to figure out if there are cheaper hosting options and, if so, what is technologically required to shift the domain over.

Full disclosure: we made about $35 over what I paid for the domain renewal. My gut instinct is to hang on to this for the next cycle of renewal/host switching. But if people feel strongly they'd like a few dollars back each, discuss.
