Is she still eligible for Best New Artist, because of the Gaga rule I presume? If so, that's kinda lame since her album was released two years ago.

TBH I still don't know all of the nuances of New Artist, especially since the rules keep changing. I think Cara is on the borderline since she had "Here" last year, but I can buy her as still new. More so it's about the rule anyway. From what I can tell she's eligible, but I could be wrong.
In terms of my personal opinoipn, I don't think having a previous release should matter in and of itself if that release was low key or something. I like a rule where it's more about artists first finding success, though i think it should be in combination with a rule on amount of releases (i.e. an artist with 5 albums isn't "New" regardless if they all went nowhere). |

Flaming Nora...I forgot eligibility ended two weeks ago! Jesus Christ...Ed Sheeran will almost certainly win 'Album of the Year' barring some critical darling providing enough of a credible alternative to dissuade NARAS voters who can only think in terms of sales.

Sheeran is easily the favorite for AOTY. He hasn't won that category yet, and "Perfect" is becoming a real hit at the right time.
An acclaimed, popular 'urban' album will again get passed over for a white artist. |

Kendrick Lamar is seriously going to be runner up for the third time in five years? I don't know. I feel like this might be his year.
I know Sheeran has strong support but even as someone who likes a lot of his stuff, I was far from impressed with his new album. |

Beyonce couldn't win last year despite even bigger sales and pop culture relevance than Lamar; she was on her third AOTY nod, too. She lost to a previous winner no less, whereas Sheeran hasn't even won AOTY before (but is seemingly a Grammys fave). Let's not forget Kanye West lost AOTY three times, too (3 times in 4 years no less). Also keep in mind that Sheeran has some support from the R&B/hip-hop community in that Jamie Foxx helped him out early on, and he's collaborated with Beyonce (and did shots with her and Jay-Z), Yelawolf, Rock Ross, Lupe Fiasco, and The Game. I would love for Lamar to win and will happily eat (metaphorical) crow if he does, but at this point I don't see it. Now, I will re-asses when the nominations come out because sometimes it's also about the competition (i.e. which genres are represented and if vote splitting could occur and/or one genre getting behind someone because their genre isn't represented). |

Jesus, I got his song name wrong and then reversed his name. Apologies to all Kendrick Lamar fans - I'm losing it these days.

The longer "Praying" hangs around, the better its chances get (and honestly, the Weinstein stuff helps it). I was always predicting a Song nod, but Record seems possible, too.

I hope P!nk is not forgotten in the mix. "Beautiful Trauma" is great from start to finish, with no bad songs. Her vocals have never sounded better. She takes me to church on "You Get My Love." Wow.

Her album missed the deadline for this year, I think. Only "What About Us" would be a factor til the next Grammys.
