That might be better for her because this year is so stacked. Same with Clarkson.

Outside of Sheeran and Lamar, there are no real locks. In terms of female artists, it's especially bleak so someone like P!nk could potentially have slid in there by default. Next year they will be competing with Taylor Swift, probably Rihanna, perhaps Beyonce. |

Holy shit. Ed Sheeran shut out of the main categories. Jay-Z in all 3. Childish Gambino in AOTY and ROTY. WTF? Interesting.

I'd say Bruno Mars is now the favorite in AOTY given his track record at the Grammys and that Jay-Z, Kendrick, and Childish Gambino will split votes. We are guaranteed a non-white winner in Record of the Year. Song of the Year is predictably awful. I'd love to see "4:44" win. |

Not sure how they 'gamed the system' to make it #GrammysSoWoke but am stunned that the General Field ended up like this...how did this happen!? Every other genre bloc vote was so thin that they couldn't get behind one or two nominees? Seems almost incredulous.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/gra...ar-BBFSO3c It'll shut up a few naysayers such as myself who were prepared for what was an inevitable Ed Sheeran set of wins but of course, that cannot happen. You can't please everybody and yes, there are complaibts that this is mostly a male dominated General Field with Lorde somehow making it to the final five for 'Album of the Year'. Critics seem to be willing Kendrick Lamar to a win. Jay-Z is the veteran in the field though. Bruno Mars is a lively spoiler. Still feel that enough of a furore that he was denied last time by Taylor Swift may be enough to swing 'AotY' for Kendrick Lamar. Am surprised Childish Gambino made it in the zgeneral Field especially 'AotY'...a strong chance though that Donald Glover will complete the 'EG' part of the 'EGOT' looking at his range of nominations further down the list. Those who vote for 'Song of the Year' should stop voting...'Despacito'? Wouldn't feel that '4:44' winning here would be too bad considering the opposition. The composition of 'Record of the Year's is kind of intriguing. I don't think 'Despacito' was the overwhelming favourite to win now that I thought it was. '24k Magic' is by.default, the most MOTR of the five here in a far from milquetoast blandarama that I was expecting and is an easy spoiler to what might be touted as the presumed main event that is 'Humble' vs. 'The Story of OJ'. Had a slight fit thinking DJ Khaled was nominated for 'Best New Artist'...no, Khalid. Alessia Cara probably the favourite but I think Julia Michaels could be the spoiler. |

I have no faith that Kendrick Lamar will win AOTY. I would love for it to happen, but I won't believe it until I see it. For one, only two hip-hop albums have ever won AOTY. For another, it has happened way too often that a hip-hop album with critical and commercial success has lost AOTY (Kendrick twice, but also Eminem and Kanye three times each, and Lil Wayne and Missy Elliott). On top of that you have Jay-Z and even Childish Gambino siphoning votes from Kendrick, and I just can't see him garnering enough support to win. But I hope I'm wrong.
But yes, to see an AOTY line-up with no white males and a ROTY line-up with no white people is pretty damn refreshing. |

RE: 2017 Grammys thread (held in 2018)
I have more faith in Jay Z pulling off a victory of the lot especially because I think he has enough rapport with the 'rock' block. Ultimately doesn't it come down to the Rock and Country voters anyway?
I'm really shocked Bruno is in that lineup. So is there a chance Lorde can benefit here from being the only one outside the mix? |
