Because if you fall you could injure yourself. You really should only attempt quads if you can reasonably land them or know how to fall out of them. Russian athletes should not be here but what Zagitova did was something. |

Well, if a Russian woman has to win the ladies' competition, I'm Team Zag, even with the annoying backloading and Tanos galore. She's a MUCH more beautiful skater than Medvedeva.
(By the way, I don't really think Canada and Russia are colluding; I just hate Chan and all of the Chanflation and got super-bitchy.) |

I'm interested to see how they score Zagitova and Medvedeva in the ladies' event.

Wagner is being quite vocal about Zagitova's program construction.

As Wagner says, you can't blame them because it's smart in terms of how the scoring works. I'd argue, though, Zagitova doesn't just 'kill time' in the first half of her program. Personally I would like to see the jumps spread out more, but I think she does some nice work in the first half regardless. |

I find Wagner suuuuuper annoying, self-aggrandizing, and whiny and a poor loser, but...she's not totally wrong. The backloading by the Russian women is almost as annoying as Plushy's frontloading was. I will say that I thought Zag didn't quite kill time the way Med did.

How about Simen Krüger in cross country skiing. He fell down early down in the race and was in last place (out of 68) and slowly climbed back and won the gold medal, Norway's first in the games. How freakin' cool is that?!
