71st Emmy Awards (2018/2019)
So this year's Drama Actress races will be complete gut jobs. Do they bring back old reliables in Henson, Wright and Davis or do they try to bring some change?
Out in Lead: Elisabeth Moss Keri Russell Tatiana Maslany Claire Foy Evan Rachel Wood Sandra Oh is the only holdover. With House of Cards going down in flames and Robin Wright still standing as the sole lead, she could get back in just on goodwill. Laura Linney somehow missed out last year but Wendy is THAT BITCH on Ozark this past season and I don't see her missing out. Of course there's Julia Roberts, so duh there. Emilia Clarke, Jodie Comer, Angela Bassett, Christine Baranski, Mandy Moore, MJ Rodriguez and Maggie Gyllenhaal are all possibilities. If they could figure out that Facebook has original content, Elizabeth Olsen would be awesome. Out in Supporting: Ann Dowd Yvonne Strahovski Alexis Bledel Vanessa Kirby Millie Bobbie Brown Thandie Newton Lena Headey is the only holdover. Headey gets back in. Maisie Williams too. Maybe Gwendolyn Christie this time. Susan Kelechi Watson is in but I'm not so sure on Chrissy Metz. Julia Garner is a standout on Ozark and she got an individual SAG nod too. The rest depends on timing and whatever the fuck they feel like doing. Feeling inclusive: Indya Moore and Domonique Jackson from Pose. Feeling like a namecheck: Sissy Spacek from Homecoming. Feeling like coattailing a nominee: Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve and Rhea Seehorn in Better Call Saul. Do whatever you want: Diane Lane, Maura Tierney, Aisha Hinds, Cush Jumbo, Kelly Reilly, Audra McDonald, Carrie Coon, Keeley Hawes. I'd lose my shit if Miranda Otto or Michelle Gomez had a shot from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, as worthy as they are. I'm excited to see what happens here. But they'll fuck it up and somehow nominate Mariska Hargitay. |

You can add Sarah Paulson now that American Horror Story has been kicked out of limited.

The last season should give her plenty of material to work with. Gwendoline Christie is wonderful but she hasn't even been submitted by HBO. I wonder if she'll have some great material this year for them to push her. |

RE: 71st Emmy Awards (2018/2019)
I think it is safe to say that GoT will only have one acting winner for its run.
And good LORD, give Emma Thompson the Emmy for hosting SNL this past weekend. She was a RIOT. |

RE: 71st Emmy Awards (2018/2019)
While I did still love the admittedly rushed and flawed final season, I think it's safe to say Game of Thrones' seemingly easy victory for its last season is iffy at best. But the question is: What could beat it in Drama Series?
The Handmaid's Tale and Westworld are both sitting this season out. The Emmys doesn't seem to be overly in love with This Is Us since it never got either a Writing or Directing nomination and hasn't won Emmys beyond the actors. Better Call Saul perhaps? But it hasn't won anything yet. Killing Eve is very possible but it needs to build more momentum. I'm guessing that unless a consensus alternative pick emerges in the next couple of months, Game of Thrones may probably still win by default. |

RE: 71st Emmy Awards (2018/2019)
Was this season of House of Cards well received? They could also go with a total wild card like Pose. They don't do things like that very often, but we often forget that surprises can just turn into shows becoming consensus picks in the future.
Edit: Also, what about something like Homecoming? |

House of Cards was trashed this season. Robin Wright, if she gets in, is coasting on goodwill. I'm actually going with Ozark, giving Netflix it's first series win.

RE: 71st Emmy Awards (2018/2019)
I think GoT will easily win Drama Series. Love it or hate it, it was a cultural PHENOMENON this season more than ever before. In fact, I do not remember in recent memory (maybe "Friends," "The Sopranos") a show that has been this huge with water cooler talk and total coverage of all news outlets. It was HUGE. I do not see it losing at all. I think it will easily win, especially since its surprising win for season 7.
