Official PARASITE Thread (Here be spoilers)
Deserves its own thread
What a fiendishly, ferociously entertaining film. |

RE: Official PARASITE Thread (Here be spoilers)
Still processing parts of it in my head. I left the theater thinking the first act was my favorite, but I've thought so much more about the second and third acts since then. It works so well as a thrilling popcorn movie, then digs into your head over time.
I know a lot of people loved Yeo-jeong Jo as the spoiled rich wife, but I think my favorite performance came from So-dam Park as the younger daughter in the servant family. She just seemed so unbothered by the moral implications of what they were doing, and I totally agreed when the family pointed out she seemed to belong in that house. If you think of it as a class metaphor, it's a smart comment on how those who can rise to the top are those manipulating the system who don't bother questioning it. |

Agreed on So-dam Park. I loved that so many lines I chalked up to being offhand comments ended up factoring into the storyline later. I feel like it’s a film that warrants a second viewing to pick up on more.

RE: Official PARASITE Thread (Here be spoilers)
I'm really hoping that people who haven't seen the film stay away from spoilers because the sheer giddiness I felt from the reveal that leads into the second act was exhilarating. Like Ciski, I thought about US too, especially during the last two acts (the first act is very much La Ceremonie).
Not a perfect movie, but one I can't wait to revisit. |

A) No one has talked about post-IMF crisis Korea as perceptively as Bong has/is, especially when it comes to wealth, industrialization, and social inequality. And that doesn't even cover his talent as a director (no one does ensemble staging as effectively as he does - no one) and his ability to mix genres seamlessly. He's a genius.
B) They found the real life killer from 'Memories of Murder' y'all |

Saw it for a second time.
For those who have seen it, what do you think of the return of the son post-rampage? Do you take it literally (as in he's alive) or is the post-rampage sequence spectral/metaphorical for you? |

RE: Official PARASITE Thread (Here be spoilers)
I took it literally but obviously the meaning of the ending is allegorical re: the role Ki-taek inherits in the structure of South Korean social hierarchy.

I meant the dad in the basement, but by extension the son then inherits his dad's role, too. THIS MOVIE IS SO BRILLIANT
