72nd Emmy Awards (2019/2020)

I'll be posting my predictions in a few days but I wanna ask: How do you guys think they will do the Emmys this year? I think they have a few options:

a.) The least likely would be to do it like normal. I doubt it will safe enough to do it normally.

b.) The next least likely is no ceremony at all. All the awards will be announced online. I doubt this will happen either.

c.) The next option is a completely social distant ceremony like the Daytime Emmy: Every nominee and presenter will be on Zoom.

d.) The other option would be a semi-social distant ceremony: Only the nominees plus a significant other who have been quarantining with them will attend. Everyone will be seated at least six feet apart. There will be a bare minimum crew present. It should be a very big theater, an outdoor location or even TWO theaters to accommodate everyone. All the presenters and the host will either be the nominees who are already present or on Zoom. Temperature checks at the door and masks will be worn. Yes, I've been thinking about this. LOL.

But how virtual is the question? It's kind of a shame if the winner/s don't get to hold the trophy while they accept the award and make a speech. I've figured out how they can do that remotely: Every nominee gets a big box marked "DO NOT OPEN TILL YOUR CATEGORY" and when the winner is announced, the winner has the Emmy and all the other nominees get their nomination certificates.

I say this with kindness, but neither of you lives in LA. Our stay-at-home orders are going to last into July, and large gatherings, however socially distanced, are not going to be happening for a loooong time. Yes, at a certain point, people will just have to figure out how to conduct business and school and accept the risks because we can't all stay at home and not work and not educate our kids, etc.; however, that isn't going to include frivolous things occurring in large groups like sports or awards shows, at least for a while (and large political rallies will sure as hell not be happening here either). I tutor high school kids in a one-on-one setting in their homes, but I've obviously had to switch to online lessons; the company I work for is going to announce on Tuesday that online lessons will be required through the end of the year, and that relates to gatherings of two people, tutor and student. The Emmys couldn't happen with fewer than a few hundred people, realistically, and that's not happening. Period. Honestly, I imagine many/most of the potential nominees have no interest in gathering in large groups themselves and would probably prioritize their own health and safety over potentially holding a trophy.

Frankly, there's an excellent chance the Oscars will be conducted virtually, so thinking the Emmys won't also be conducted virtually 5-6 months earlier is wishful thinking.

I hope the Emmys do two shows. One is a shorter online version to announce all winners one category at a time. But two of the major music awards in Hong Kong did some specials with interviews and short movies/documentary shorts about the winning songs and artists when they couldn't do the live shows in January. So I hope the American awards will do something in that vein. The Tony Awards already kind of dropped the ball in this specific regards, so I hope the Emmys do not.

Yeah...the Tonys had a third of their entire season canceled with the shutdown and rely on voters going to see shows in person.

This year. It dropped June 7 of last year.

No Governor's Ball. Creative Arts Emmys will be virtual.
