Three things:

No Titane in International Feature.

No Nightmare Alley in Score.

Candyman makes it in Sound and Score.

I was always worried that Titane would be too weird to make it in but if so, how did Lamb advance?

I think Campion and Smit-McPhee are the most likely to win. I think there is no way Will Smith will lose the Oscar because he will start taking the televised awards.

Lamb is weird but it’s nowhere near as violent and potentially off-putting as Titane is. I loved Titane and I’ve seen a lot of violent and gory films but even I had to turn away and cover my eyes a few times.

They were clearly putting all their chips behind the "emotional" song (and it is great and moving), but there are several more interesting and (I think) better songs in Encanto ("Bruno" among them). I hope it doesn't backfire on them because the music is wonderful in the film.

In some ways "Bruno" is the "Under the Sea" of Encanto, but that one did get a push. More so it's interesting to look back and see "UTS" actually won the Oscar, while "Part of Your World" (which is the big ballad of the movie and has endured as well) wasn't even nominated.

"Surface Pressure" is also a more interesting song. I wish they'd let up on this one song submission. Ever since they lost all three bids for Enchanted, they've dumped multiple submissions from one film.

Yeah, I think "We Don't Talk About Bruno" and "Surface Pressure" are the best songs in the film.
