RE: BROADWAY IS REOPENING SEPTEMBER 14TH AT FULL CAPACITY!!!!!
This got me to thinking what would Broadway/touring use to give people what they cannot have with movies/TV? What came to mind would be some form of audience participation. I wonder when shows are reopened, if it becomes more common to add some form of audience participation.

I believe there are a few theater pieces that do incorporate audience participation but I don't think it's all that common. Pippin has a number in which a character asks the audience to sing along with her ("No Time At All"). A musical called The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee asks members of the audience to act as spelling bee contestants in a scene. IIRC, I think The Boy from Oz, a biographical musical about Peter Allen that starred Hugh Jackman has a scene where he interacts with audience members in character. |
