2021 Grammy Awards
FWIW these nominations are out in a couple of hours. I am interested to see them mainly because they did away with the committees they had put in place in the mid-90s. At the time that really helped the diversity and quality of nominations. After recent criticism they were removed. So, now we get to see if the Grammys revert back to the kind of white/generic nominations that led to the committees, or if the voting body has evolved enough to show eliminating the committees was the right move.
(I don't hold out much hope since the committees are what gave us nominees like Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, Kanye West etc while the overall body is what gave us winners like Ed Sheeran, Beck, Herbie Hancock, etc). |

Lol they just announced it will be 10 nominees in each of the big categories. I don't understand doing this for Best New Artist; the other 3 general categories have a lot more eligible nominees.

LMAO!! ABBA and Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga get in Record of the Year. The committees would have prevented that.

RE: 2021 Grammy Awards
I kind of like the BNA category. That's a guaranteed win for Olivia but overall it looks like a pretty wild category. It made me very happy to see Arooj Aftab, Japanese Breakfast, and Arlo Parks in that mix. Other than that I'd say I most enjoyed the nominations for Allison Russell and Brothers Osborne.
Months ago while reading an article on Variety's website I saw an FYC ad for the audiobook of Mariah's memoirs. Alas, that nomination didn't happen but it's just as well. She would have lost to Barack Obama anyways. |

RE: 2021 Grammy Awards
Btw Taylor Swift has two Album nominations this year on a technicality; she has a songwriting credit on a song on Olivia Rodrigo's album because the song was inspired by Swift, and the new Grammy rule is all writers, producers, etc on an album get credit for a nomination/win. Wild.

She would have lost, but her audiobook is actually iconic and kind of a landmark for the medium. A nomination should have been a lock, and frankly a win would have been deserved. This just shows how much the Grammys dislike her. |

RE: 2021 Grammy Awards
What a fucking mess.
Not only did Mariah get the snub in spoken word, so did Cicely Tyson and Viola Davis for Tyson's memoir. That shit is foul. |

It has been revealed that this was a last minute decision, and that the two albums that got in Album as a result were Kanye and Taylor. Wow. |

Taylor Swift was removed as a nominee as part of Olivia Rodrigo's Sour in AOTY.
