RE: Current Events
As she is still in prison, Narges Mohammadi was not able to accept her Nobel Peace Prize in person. The ceremony had an empty chair representing her as well as her picture. Her acceptance speech was smuggled out of prison and read by her 17-year-old-twin daughter and son Kiana and Ali Rahmani, in, I believe, French.

RE: Current Events
A pair of loose ends for the Nobel Prizes. I was not able to post this during a time when I had difficulty logging in to this site:
"The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2023 to Claudia Goldin, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA, 'for having advanced our understanding of women’s labour market outcomes.'” The menu for this year's Noble Prize Banquet is: "Yellow beetroot baked with seaweed and salt and a cream made from seaweed from Sweden’s west coast. Served with buttermilk and dill-seed plus sturgeon caviar from Strömsnäsbruk. Cod loin stuffed with king crab, served with a kohlrabi roll and a potato dumpling filled with cod and king crab, accompanied by pickled onions with mushrooms. Served with winter vegetables and pickled summer vegetables, accompanied by a grilled blue mussel sauce. Baked chocolate cream with a compôte made of lingonberries from Mockträsk outside Boden, flavoured with tar syrup. Served with a chocolate sablé and lingonberry toffee, accompanied by meringues and cream made of lingonberries and a fresh crème fraiche parfait." |

RE: Current Events
The U.S. Supreme Court will start hearing oral arguments this coming Thursday on whether or not Donald Trump should be barred form the ballot this November. This involves the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution barring insurrectionists from holding office and Trump's involvement with the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

While on a personal level I'd love to see Trump off ballots, I don't see this Court ruling that he should be - and I think that would be a correct ruling. To this point Trump hasn't been found guilty of anything related to January 6, so I don't see how there is legal justification for keeping him off ballots. That's a really slippery slope if it's allowed. |

RE: Current Events
Trump is unable to make the almost half-billion-dollar bond necessary to appeal his New York civil fraud verdict. It appears the New York AG will start seizing Trump's property in about a week.

RE: Current Events
The big question I have is, if the New York AG starts to seize Trump properties, how leveraged is Trump? It could be that the New York Ag seizes a property, sells it to the highest bidder, and, finds that Trump is underwater, that he owes more money on the property than its sale price. That means the creditors do not get fully paid back, New York gets no money off of that property; and, the New York AG seizes another property. This could go on and on. Who knows when it would all end?
