The Official EGOT Watch Thread
Might as well move this here as well.
This is a thread dedicated to speculate which entertainment personality will next achieve the creme de la creme of entertainment awards status: The EGOT, winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar AND Tony. Only a little over a dozen people have done it. EGOT-ing is sometimes controversial because some people don't count Daytime Emmys, Latin Grammys or honorary awards and some people do. I'll let the board decide. Here's the list of those who have achieved it in chronological order: 01. Richard Rodgers 02. Barbra Streisand* (honorary Tony) 03. Helen Hayes 04. Rita Moreno 05. John Gielgud 06. Liza Minnelli* (honorary Grammy) 07. Audrey Hepburn 08. Marvin Hamlisch 09. Jonathan Tunick 10. Mel Brooks 11 Mike Nichols 12. Whoopi Goldberg* (Daytime Emmy) 13. James Earl Jones* (honorary Oscar) 14. Scott Rudin 15.Robert Lopez* (Daytime Emmy) 16. John Legend 17. Andrew Lloyd Webber 18. Tim Rice 19. Alan Menken* (Daytime Emmy) 20. Jennifer Hudson* (Daytime Emmy) 21. Viola Davis 22. Elton John Here are the triple crown winners with who are one away from EGOT-ing. I've deleted those who have passed away. I will upgrade them should they EGOT and delete them should they pass away. I will also add names to this list should someone triple-crown. EGO_ 01. Adele 02. Julie Andrews 03. Alan Bergman 04. Jon Blair* (International Documentary Emmy) 05. Cher 06. Common 07. Eminem 08. Michael Giacchino 09. Brian Grazer 10. Hildur Guðnadóttir 11. Ron Howard 12. Steve Martin* (Honorary Oscar) 13. RE: The Official EGOT Watch Thread
A few discussion questions to keep this thread alive:
Three out of the four acting winners this year are halfway to EGOT: Eddie Redmayne (Oscar, Tony), Julianne Moore (Oscar, Emmy) and Patricia Arquette (Oscar, Emmy), who will be the first to triple-crown? Who will be most likely to EGOT? I think Eddie Redmayne is the answer to both. He can easily get himself in a made-for-HBO/PBS/BBC America TV movie or miniseries and win an Emmy. Since we know he can sing, he could win himself a Grammy if he headlines a Broadway musical or sing a track on a song or something. Oooh, I just realized Lily Tomlin COULD easily EGOT next year if Grandma happens. |

RE: The Official EGOT Watch Thread
For me the ultimate EGOT would be someone who does different things well within the fields. What I mean is, technically someone could produce a single Broadway show and win 3-4 of these (i.e. a Tony for producing show, a Grammy for the recording of it, an Oscar for the movie version, and an Emmy for a televised performance of it). I'm more interested in someone who has original material they sing, produce, whatever to get a Grammy, who does a musical on Broadway, wins an Oscar for acting/directing/whatever, and then wins an Emmy for something different from those. Some of these "Spoken Word" Grammys bother me, too, though I don't know why. I guess they just don't seem in line with what the Grammys are ultimately known for (i.e. music).

RE: The Official EGOT Watch Thread
I also think Redmayne has the best shot at hitting EGOT first. An Emmy could easily happen. And if he takes part in a musical again and sings on the majority of the album, wouldn't he win a Grammy if it did?

RE: The Official EGOT Watch Thread
Corrected! Don't know how I missed that.
Quote:I also think Redmayne has the best shot at hitting EGOT first. An Emmy could easily happen. And if he takes part in a musical again and sings on the majority of the album, wouldn't he win a Grammy if it did? Yes, I looked it up. I think they added principal vocalist/s a couple years ago. So if Eddie Redmayne headlines a musical, he can win a Grammy for it. |

RE: The Official EGOT Watch Thread
Is Kate Winslet looking to do any Broadway shows? I can see her winning a Tony. I think she studied theatre when she was fairly young. I think she sang for Heavenly Creatures, too? I don't know if she's done a musical.

RE: The Official EGOT Watch Thread
Helen Mirren just triple-crowned. Now all she needs is to do a book-on-tape and win that Grammy!
