RE: Figure Skating: Because This Forum Can't Only Be About Tennis
It's amazing how we (the US) have become so good at ice dancing in the last ten years when that had always been our worst discipline historically. Silver and bronze is pretty fantastic. And Russia, always the worst in the ladies' event, has now become the dominant force in that event in the last two years.*coughKimYunawasrobbedinSochicough*
And look at Ashley Wagner finally getting a world medal. |

The quad axel is 1/2 a rotation away from a quintuple so that's not gonna happen for a while.

Evgenia Medvedeva is unbeatable. She's the total package. Wow. When is the last time she even had a fall?

RE: Figure Skating: Because This Forum Can't Only Be About Tennis
I really really hate both of her programs this year though. Her short is too immature for someone at her level and her long is just...it's a 9/11 program. Come on. I think jumping wise, she will not be beaten. She never falls and she does them all with the Tano bonus. But I think she needs better packaging. I mean, they might never be motivated to fix that because she wins so overwhelmingly but Russian Nationals will be harder to medal at than the Olympics so her team should want to give her every advantage. They've had so many of these teen girls lately who are unbeatable for one season (Lipnitskaia, Tuty, Radionova) who then disappear into the distant night. It's fascinating that she's the one who's held it together. Russia has Medvedeva, Pogorilaya (ouch), Sotskova, Radionova, Tuty, AND the current World Junior Champion (who was age-ineligible for Senior Worlds this year but is age-eligible for the Olympics). For three spots.
Hanyu, to me, had the greatest performance perhaps of his career. Which is saying a lot from someone who is already an Olympic Champion. That free skate was otherworldly. The men's field overall seems somewhat stronger than the ladies but I guess what else is new. The ice dance competition was also incredible. (It was a great weekend of skating.) I would not have expected Virtue and Moir to be able to come back quite so quickly. Should be a fantastic showdown with them and Papadakis and Cizeron in 2018. Hopefully the US can stick with bronze. Pairs was the most embarrassing figure skating competition that the US has ever been a part of. We should hang ourselves in shame over it. |
