RE: RNR Hall of Fame discussion
Does the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame really have that much of an impact on sales? It seems like it's more of a press release (recently, anyway) than a major cultural event.

RE: RNR Hall of Fame discussion
Well, I can see it helping an act who didn't have much sales anyway. I mean, going from 1,000 sold to 6,000 sold is going to be a huge % jump. I definitely found that part odd, too, though.

RE: RNR Hall of Fame discussion
Yeah, I'm guessing it probably does have an impact on certain acts that are more out of the limelight than others who are more mainstream. Joan Jett, for instance, probably got a decent little bump in sales after the announcement a few months back. Green Day? Not so much.
As for the Hall itself, I don't think they'll ever satisfy everyone, or even close to everyone. But, making things more transparent could be a decent start. |

RE: RNR Hall of Fame discussion
I just now learned Dolly Parton isn't in the HOF. On the one hand it might make sense because she's a country music artists, but Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, etc. are in the HOF. It's hard not to think her gender is a big reason. Are any female country artists in the HOF?
This is the article that led me to realize it: http://uproxx.com/music/2015/09/rock-and...est-snubs/ |

RE: RNR Hall of Fame discussion
Brenda Lee. As far as I can tell, she, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley are the only "performers" to be inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Others, like Hank Williams, Bill Monroe and Jimmie Rodgers were inducted under the "early influences" category.
Looking ahead to the next induction ceremony, the Future Rock Legends website has the following as being first time eligible. 311 A Tribe Called Quest Alias Alice In Chains Béla Fleck and the Flecktones Bell Biv DeVoe The Black Crowes Blues Traveler Blur The Breeders C+C Music Factory Cannibal Corpse Celine Dion The Charlatans UK Damn Yankees Dannii Minogue Dar Williams David Baerwald Deee-Lite Dread Zeppelin En Vogue Eric's Trip fIREHOSE FireHouse The Gits Hole Ice Cube Israel Kamakawiwo'ole Jellyfish Jesus Lizard Keith Urban Kid Rock Lighter Shade of Brown Mariah Carey Mark Lanegan Mazzy Star Mighty Mighty Bosstones Moby Mortification Nelson Notwist Ocean Colour Scene Orbital Paradise Lost Primus The Rembrandts Ride Saint Etienne Saviour Mahine The Screaming Jets Silver Jews Slaughter Slowdive Smashing Pumpkins Snap! RE: RNR Hall of Fame discussion
I love Chaka, but I don't see where her solo career merits inclusion. I'm assuming her terrific work with Rufus is counted separately.
But really, at this point it's clear to me my standards for HOF inclusion are quite different (in several ways) from the voting body. Why is Nine Inch Nails on here? NWA had 1 great album. They are on here because of the recent renewed interest. Chic had "Good Times" and what? How are these acts getting a nomination over someone like Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey when they have influenced an entire generation or two? |
