In terms of a win, yes, sappy songs do well, but in terms of nominations the Grammys have proven to be a bit more adventurous in the past decade or two. I'm thinking of nominees like Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" this past time, Kanye West's "All of the Lights," Bon Iver's "Holocene," and Miguel's "Adorn." Let's also not forget that Beyonce won SOTY for "Single Ladies." That isn't a traditionally sappy song at all. Neither is "Royals." The main thing working against "7 Years" is that Lukas Graham could be a one-hit wonder. In terms of the males who've won SOTY for sappy songs, all were either previous nominees/winners (John Mayer, Ed Sheeran) or at least had more than one hit under their belt (Sam Smith). And for the record, "Bad Day" didn't get a SOTY nod. |

The media webt with it because of the Beyhive response. Let's not pretend those fuckers didn't kick it off. |

Adele had a good strategy last time doing RITD and then SLY in Pop Solo. Will she just stick with "Hello" across the board since she's not doing more singles?

"SLY" was a real vocal showcase so it made sense in Pop Solo. Plus, it was a #1 hit, too. I can't see her putting a non-hit in a category instead of a huge #1. I think she has said "WWWY" is her favorite song on the album, though, so maybe she'd push it just out of personal favoritism? |

For the record, Adele announced back in March - and iHeartRadio confirmed a few weeks ago - that "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" is going to radio this month as the third single from 25.

That makes so much sense. I couldn't figure out why she wouldn't release her most radio friendly/Max Martin/Shellback song as a single.

Yeah, it's cool she's finally releasing another single, though at this point it seems too late too late. There is no momentum for the project. When does her tour start in the U.S.? It would almost make more sense to push the single when the tour starts as a sort of re-launch of 25.

Am I wrong to think Beyonce, Adele, Justin Bieber and Drake have four of the Album slots sewn up? I'm not sure about the guys but given pretty strong word of mouth for both, these four wouldn't surprise me. I'd love to think Gwen Stefani has a shot too, but without radio traction I don't know if she'll get there.
Any other predictions on Album slots? |

I wonder if David Bowie will be in play for Blackstar at all.

Adele and Beyonce seem like locks, yes. Drake is certainly possible, but the Grammys haven't fully embraced him before so I'm not sold yet. I'm also not sure if NARAS is ready to embrace Bieber or not, for several reasons (including his sore loser shit from the past). I think he'll get in Record or Album at this point. Rihanna has an outside shot; she's gotten in AOTY before. David Bowie is certainly a possibility, though he might be fighting for the rock/veteran slot with Radiohead.
