She didn't really have a big hit on the album. Of course, I'd have to run through the Pop Solo potentials in my mind to make sure as there may not be a lot of contenders ("Uptown Funk" isn't Solo, for example). Taylor Swift, Eh Sheeran, The Weeknd, Rachel Platten, perhaps Omi, etc. would be more likely than Clarkson, though. Clarkson might have a better chance in Pop Album since Sheeran isn't eligible, and The Weeknd may not go Pop. It may be a stretch to find 5 nominees, so Clarkson as a former winner has as good of chance as anyone except Swift. |

I think we could have a showdown of the pretty blonde female singer-songwriters with Tori Kelly AND Rachel Platten both possibly in the running for BNA. I'd love to see Tori nominated in Pop Album and Pop Solo too.

I was thinking today that Tori Kelly could definitely end up in BNA. I can't see her getting in Pop Solo because it has become 'biggest pop solo singles,' but Pop Album is possible.
The main Pop Solo contenders in my opinion: Taylor Swift - "Blank Space" (or whatever her label pushes) Ed Sheeran - "Thinking Out Loud" The Weeknd - "Can't Feel My Face" (or whatever his label pushes here; he's got several options for various categories) Jason Derulo - "Want To Want Me" Meghan Trainor - "Lips Are Movin'" Justin Bieber - "What Do You Mean?" Rachel Platten - "Fight Song" Andy Grammer - "Honey, I'm Good" Nick Jonas - "Jealous" |

Given those options, Rachel is definitely helped this year with such a weak lineup.
There are also live performances of ineligible singles to consider... |

I can't really think of anything that peaked after the deadline a la "All of Me" and "Happy." Is there a "Halo"-type song where a song that has been nominated before was performed in a new version? Separate from the Grammys, but the Country Music Association nominations were announced last week, and they nominated a song in Song this year that was nominated in Single last year. This isn't the first time that has happened there. WTH? |

I think Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" should be on that list as well. Not that it's a great song, but it certainly was successful and helped make the 50 Shades soundtrack a strong seller (along with The Weeknd).
Could Tove Lo show up in BNA as well? If Kelly, Platten, and Tove Lo get in, would that be the most female-heavy lineup in history? |

I forgot Ellie Goulding, but she should probably be included there. Having said that, she didn't get in for "Lights" or "Burn," so I don't know how much voters like her.
It's pretty common for 3 or more female artists to get nominated in Best New Artist. The year Amy Winehouse won, she beat 3 other solo females (Taylor Swift, Ledisi, and Feist) and a female-led band (Paramore). Christina Aguilera beat Britney Spears, Macy Gray, and Susan Tedeschi (Kid Rock was the fifth nominee). Sam Hunt could easily be the country nominee in BNA this year. |

Speaking of which, there'll probably be the 'random British nominee that winds up in this category but gets no other nominations' such as James Bay and George Ezra. Both popular-ish and bland enough to get nominations. Don't think Jess Glynne (like Adele singing 'modern pop') or Years and Years (like Michael Jackson discovering electronica) can get enough votes.
