I think it should additionally be up for supporting actor (Montgomery), supporting actress (Brown), drama series, writing x2, and directing x2. I didn't even realize Stranger Things was eligible. It feels like it has been years since it last dropped. (07-29-2020 03:32 PM)Hybrid87 Wrote: The Octavia Spencer nomination is so so bizarre. How the fuck did she get in for a nothing performance over a career best Reese Witherspoon? Nothing for Reese for any of her acting gigs is a bit lame, but Spencer is beloved in general and got good reviews for the series. Plus I will celebrate people of color getting in when they have so often been the ones overlooked. |

Yeah. Given how deeply entrenched rewarding white mediocrity is, it seems churlish to single out Spencer.
That stated, I miss Kristen Bell and Manny Jacinto here. I'm so far behind on everything though. |

I've been following these since 2001. This is the first year I ran out of fingers counting the number of Black women nominated. <3
Jovan Adepo is my favorite nomination. He anchors the finest episode of Watchmen with a breathtaking performance. Thrilled he was remembered. |

You thought that was Withespoon's best? Eeerp. It's Octavia Spencer playing a major black icon. It was right there. She was in my predictions. |

I'd say the last episode of LFE is up there with the best work Reese has done, and she was solid throughout. I thought she was better than Washington tbh, but again people of color have been passed over so often I am not going to complain about Spencer and Washington getting in for two solid performances. |

I didn't think much of her, Washington or the show but to each his own.

Is O'Hara going to win? Seems the odds on favorite at this point.
Of course so does much of SC now. |

It really does feel as if Schitt's Creek is the odds on favourite for all it's major nominations - certainly actor/actress and comedy. Which frankly, feels very wierd.
Of all the shows I have to catch up on, Succession is the one I'm dreading the most. Though it would be fitting for the Emmys, in their most diverse slate of nominees ever, having the whitest show win. Is Ramy nominated for it's first season or second? |

I don't know if anyone pointed this out but for the past 9 years, the Lead Actor in a Drama winner has always been from a show in either its first season or its last season. The only nominee this year that qualifies, if this pattern holds a 10th time, is Steve Carell. I doubt he can do it but there have been weirder winners so why not?
