RE: Precursor Awards (2022-2023)
It seemed it at the time of the announcement and seems even more so now that it was very boneheaded for Williams to be pushed Lead since she would've seemingly had a Viola Davis-esque lock on Supporting, but since that opens up the field for Bassett or Hsu or Curtis (or others) to win, I won't complain.

It's funny, because I suspect that in 2016, if Davis had gone lead, she would've been nominated ahead of Negga and beaten Stone (and I believe Williams, who won New York and National Society would've won supporting). I don't think going supporting for Fences was indefensible or anything - it is Troy/Denzel's movie first and her arc is subordinate to his - but I would've slotted her in lead myself. |

RE: Precursor Awards (2022-2023)
Having seen the film, I think she is so clearly supporting that I'm worried most voters will ignore her campaign and vote for her in supporting. The worry coming from the fact that it's a laughably terrible performance.

RE: Precursor Awards (2022-2023)
I'm good with her being lead, though I definitely think it's a borderline case. I also think she's quite strong. It's fearless, nervy work from an actress who I wouldn't assume does stylization very well.
