I don't think enough people even know about the content of the movie to blame it. I think IFC Films made an extremely odd decision to release it wide (their first ever) with what was essentially zero promotion. IFC Films is really the only one to blame here, they definitely mismanaged the film. It may have done okay as an arthouse film. Although, even then, reviews aren't very good - so it may have just been a bomb, either way. |

WOM helped Mad Max surpass Pitch Perfect to be #1 on Monday. PP is one of those big openers and fast fading films I'm sure. I'll see it but probably not in theaters. |

Yeah, I imagine Pitch Perfect 2 will see some big drops. But Universal won't care because it is going to be a big moneymaker anyway.

The top three movies were all extremely close on Friday:
1. Tomorrowland - $9.73 million 2. Pitch Perfect 2 - $9.70 million 3. Poltergeist - $9.4 million Can Pitch Perfect 2 hold off Tomorrowland for the top spot? Both it and Poltergeist actually had better per screen averages than Tomorrowland. However it works out, this Memorial Day weekend at the box office looks like it'll be one of the smaller ones. |

-Tomorrowland won the weekend with $32 million, which is a pretty weak amount over the holiday weekend.
-Pitch Perfect 2 (-56%) was right behind with $30 million, and is already at $118 million. -Mad Max: Fury Road (-47%) came in with $23.9 mllion, and a total of $87 million. -Poltergeist did $23 million. -Avengers: Age of Ultron made another $21 million, and is now over $400 million ($404 million, to be exact). According to Box Office Guru, this Memorial Day weekend is down 19% from last year (when X-Men: Days of Future Past opened) and down a huge 43% from 2013 when Fast & Furious 6 was #1. |

San Andreas debuted with a stronger gross than expected, with $18.2 million yesterday.
Meanwhile, Tomorrowland drops a big 61% from Friday (I've read that this is the reason Disney kicked Tron 3 to the curb) and Poltergeist fell 72%. |
