Because she won bronze, not gold. Her second vault was much less difficult than those of Paseka and Hong. Hong also beat her for gold at last year's Worlds, so I don't know that Biles really is the favorite on vault.

She has never won gold on vault at Worlds. She needs to upgrade her second vault. She's been saying all year that she will, so I think once she does, she is the favorite on that event at well. At Rio, I expect her to be the heavy favorite for five golds (team, AA, vault, beam, and floor), which is insane. The beam routine in event finals was the best I've ever seen her hit it. The GOAT discussion is already in full swing!

I actually thought Hong deserved gold over Paseka this year, but both had higher start values on their second vault than Biles did.

Gabby will absolutely have the Amanar by Rio. She's already done it in training and at camp. Their strategy was to go to with the double cleanly and stay totally healthy. Good strategy. She needs to pace herself and, with the harder competition being to actually make the team, continue to prove she deserves a spot.

Yeah I've seen it all over, too, and it seems random in that gymnastics never really gets attention outside of the Olympics (certainly not college gymnastics). I think it was basically a product of good timing. She gave a strong performance that included some big pop culture moves, and (I don't mean this as crass as it will sound) she's black at a time when things like Beyonce's "Formation" hit.

She is not an elite/going for the Olympics. She's a college gymnast. It went viral because of the amazing dance moves, but don't expect to see her competing against Biles at Nationals. The entire face of American gymnastics right now is black, and the showdown for Rio will probably at least be publicized as Biles v. Douglas.
