RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
...What? The Primetime Emmys nominated five supporting actresses from "Handmaid's" last year. If anything, they have a problem of over-rewarding the same shows...
Lenk's reviews were middling and her performance has supposedly improved a lot since the reopening but most voters saw it first thing since it was one of the earliest shows back. Also, the number of ties/categories with more than five nominees is because only of the 29 Nominators could participate. There are 57 total but you have to recuse yourself if you haven't seen every single show of the season. With the rolling Covid closures, I imagine that was quite difficult this year. |

RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
From what I have read, if I had an opportunity to see any of these productions, the one I would want to see the most is The Lehman Trilogy.

RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
I think I meant more with the Oscars because you are right that the Emmys have been doing it (a little too much). I think I also see it more in Lead with Tonys.

RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
The difference is that eligibility with the Tonys is established ahead of time and the information is public. If your name is above the title, you are lead. If your name is below the title, you are featured. The producers for every production must submit paperwork indicating that either they are fine with these de facto placements or are petitioning for a placement move for xyz reasons. And the meetings are held five times a year, and the results published, so the decisions are made around when each show opens. So there may be surprises as to who is nominated but never for WHERE they are nominated, a la Lakeith Stanfield. What's most interesting to me about the Tony Admin decisions is the committee membership obviously changes over time as appointments are changed so precedent is not always consistent. For example, they ruled the Billy Elliotts could enter Best Actor on the same ticket (and they won) but they ruled against it for the Matildas.

RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
Beanie announced she's leaving July 31st, 7 weeks earlier than her originally announced departure, due to "the production changing direction." Rumor is Lea Michele is coming in earlier than anticipated and they forced Beanie out.

RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
Lea and Tovah start after LDW. Beanie is leaving 7/31. Julie Benko (currently the u/s) will play Fanny for six weeks and then stay on as the Thursday alternate. Jane Lynch's end date moved from 9/24 to 9/6 WHICH PROVES IT ALL.

RE: Random Theatre Thoughts
So......................................is there any scenery left at the August Wilson Theater after last night?
I watched clips on YouTube, and this show just never should have ever been revived. AT ALL. And HorribLea Michele almost makes it worse? "Get ready for me love CAUSEI'MACOMER....................." |
